"빈카 로시아(Vinca Rosea)"는 쌍떡잎식물 협죽도과의 한해살이풀이다.

 

마다가스카르, 자바섬, 브라질이 원산지이고,  인도, 마다가스카르, 자바섬, 브라질 등에 자생한다.

 

높이는 30~50cm이고, 밑부분은 나무처럼 단단한데 여기서 덩굴성 가지가 자라고 꽃이 달리는 가지는 곧게 선다.  잎은 마주나고 긴 타원형으로서

 

끝이 둔하며 가장자리가 밋밋하고 윤이 나며 주맥을 따라 흰무늬가 있다.  뒷면은 부드러운 털이 나며 잎자루 밑동에 선이 있다.

 

 

 

 

꽃은 7~9월에 피고, 지름은 2.5~3.5cm이며 빛깔은 자주색, 흰색, 빨간색 등이다.  꽃잎은 5장이며 1송이씩 핀다.  꽃이 매일 피기 때문에

 

"매일초"라고도 부른다.  비슷한 종인 덩굴매일초(V.major)는 유럽 원산으로서 연한 자주색 꽃이 피며 자궁출혈, 장출혈, 객혈등의 치료제로 쓰이고,

 

관상용으로도 재배한다.  "얼룩매일초(V.major. var. variegata)"는 잎가장자리에 노란빛을 띤 흰색무늬가 있다. 

 

마다가스카르, 자바섬, 브라질 등의 원산지에서는 여러해살이풀이다.  인도에서는 옛날부터 약용식물로 재배해왔다.  악성종양 등의 치료제로 쓰인다.

continuous display of rosy pink or white five-lobed flowers.

 

Most authorities believe it to be a native of Madagascar, though some cite the

 

Caribbean as its place of origin; in any case it is now found in most tropical countries,

 

 

 

sometimes growing wild in dry, sandy areas and often cultivated in gardens

 

 because of its dependable flowering.  Like other members of the Apocynaceae family,

 

it is poisonous, but it is also used for medicinal purposes and in recent years has

 

been the subject of considerable scientific research.

 

 

 

 

It prefers a sunny, well -drained location and easily propagated from seeds.
