오스만투스, 부드럽고 매혹적인 향기

"오스만투스(Osmantus)"는 그리이스어의 냄새(osme)와 향기(anthus)의 합성어이다.

 

중국에서는 목서 종류를 계화라 하며 특히 계림지방은 계화가 많고 가을에 목서가 많이 핀다하여 계림이라 불리운다.

 

"오스만투스(Osmantus)"는 채화하여 향료로 사용하고, 말린 꽃은 오용차의 첨향료로 쓰일 만큼 향기가 매혹적이다.

 

자스민처럼 녹차에 넣어야 그 향긋한 향기를 음미할 수 있다.   "오스만투스(Osmantus)"의 향기는 음,,,뭐랄까 바나나의 맛있는 향과

 

아주아주 농익을만큼 발갛게 익어 달콤하면서 매혹적인 향기이다.  Soltly하고 Sweet한 느낌이랄까....

 

"오스만투스(Osmantus)"의 꽃잎을 채취하여 말려서 홍차잎에 띄우면 향긋하고 독특한 홍차를 만들수 있다.

 

 

 

 

 

"오스만투스(Osmantus)"는 늘푸른 떨기나무이거나 작은 교목이다.

 

잎(길이 7~15cm, 너비 2.6~5cm)은 타원형에서 타원상 피침형으로 가장자리가 매끈하거나 잔톱니가 있다. 

 

꽃(길이 1cm)은 흰색, 옅은 노랑, 노랑, 오렌지엘로우 색이 있으며 강한 향기가 난다. 

 

열매(너비 10~15mm)는 핵과로 하나의 씨앗이 들어 있으며 자흑색으로 익는다.   씨앗은 딱딱한 껍질로 싸여있다.

 

 

 

 

 

Osmantus incluide both shrubs and climbers, some which can be grown even in

 

cool regions.  Perhaps the most popular of the tropical climbers is Osmanthus fragrans CV

 

an evergreen found covering fences in countless gardens.

 

Sometimes called Arabian Jasmine, it has eliptical, dark green leaves

 

and very fragrant clusters of single or double white flowers.

 

 

 

 

 

The blooms are used throughout Asia as religious offerings, in floral decorations,

 

and to flavour tea and food.  J.rex, or Royal Jasmine, is native to Thaialand

 

and although not fragrant produces very large, star-shaped flowers that are much

 

more conspicuous than those of J. sambac.

 

 

 

Both species like full or partial sun and well-drained soil. 

 

They can be propagated by means of woody cuttings or air-layering.
