This is a large genus that includes plants of varying sizes and leaf colourations,

 

many of which are used leaf colourations, many of which are used in Tropical Garden.

 

D. fragrans, one of the most commonly grown, has long strap-like leaves and can

 

become a small tree; it occurs in a number of forms, some with green and others

 

on which the leaves have hold yellow strips.

 

 

 

 

Tolerant of neglect, it is often seen as a house plant or garden areas that receive little attention.

 

D. reflexa (also known as Plemele reflexa and. popularly as Song of India) has amall,

 

narrow leaves which may be dark green or have bright yellow margins.

 

 

 

 

Another useful species is D. marginata, somtimes listed as D. concinna,

 

which has long flat leaves striped with red or purple; though it can grow quite tall,

 

it is more often seen in lower masses to bring colour to a garden.

 

 

 

 

Dracaena prefers partial to full sunlight though green leaved forms will do

 

well in shady locations.  All are easily propagated from stem cuttings.

 

 

 

송오브인디아(Song of India, Dracaena)는 잎과 색채가 매우 아름다운 식물로서 종류가 다양하다.

 

일반적으로 드라세나 속과 코르딜리네 속이 각각 나뉘어지는데 우리나라에서 혼돈해서 쓰는 경우가 많다.  그러나 이 둘은 전혀 별개의 속이다.

 

"Song of India" "Dracaena"가 국내에서 본격적으로 재배되기 시작한 것은 약 20년전부터 부산지방에서 인디비사를 대량 재배하기 시작하여

 

선물용으로 상품 개발에 나섰고 다음에 와네키가 도입되어 품목의 다양화를 진전시켰다.  그후 소량이지만 맛산게아나가 들어와 "황필림"이라는 명칭으로 국내에

 

보급되기 시작하다가 1970년대말 이후 수입 자유화 조치와 아파트 건설 붐을 타고 더 다양한 품종들이 도입되었고, 대량 수요시대를 열게 됐다.

 

최근 드라세나를 중심으로한 가장 큰 변화는 원목을 수입해서 싹을 틔워 판매하는 것이 보편화되면서 "마지나타" 등의 신품종이 대량 보급되기 시작했다.

 

 

Song of India(Dracaena)가 꽃을 피울 정도가 되면 매우 큰 식물이 되어야 한다.  일반적으로 2m 이상이 되어야 한다.

 

꽃대는 잎이 윤생(잎이 줄기를 따라 바퀴살처럼 나온다는뜻) 하는 곳의 겨드랑이에서 나와 땅에 늘어지는 정도로 1m 가량 자라기도 한다.

 

"Song of India"의 꽃향기는 밤에는 수백미터 밖에서도 그 향기를 맡을수 있을 정도로 향기가 강하다.
