증기기관차가 남긴 건축물, 연산역 급수탑

 

 

 

 

연산역 급수탑은 호남선 개통과 함께 증가한 증기기관차에 물을 공급하기 위해 1911년 11월 30일에 설치하여

 

1970년대까지 약 60년 간 사용되었다.  충청남도 논산시 연산면 청동리 127-74번지에 위치하고 있으며,

 

등록문화재 제 48호로 지정되어 있다.   급수탑(물탱크를 장치한 탑)의 규모는 높이 16.2m, 바닥면적 16.6m2이며,

 

총용량은 30t이다.    급수탑 옆에 위치하고 있는 우물은 폭이 2.8m,깊이 6m의 크기로 급수탑의 급수용으로 축조되었다. 

 

일제 강점기에 전국 각지에 철도망을 부설할 당시 주요역마다 기관차 급수시설을 설치하였는데,

 

충청남도에는 서대전역과 강경역에 설치되어 있었는데, 약 30년전에 모두 철수되고 이곳 연산역에만 남아 있다.

 

특히 연산역 급수탑은 유일하게 화강석을 벽돌 형태로 다듬어 만들어져 모양과 크기에서 독특한 미적 감각을 보여준다.

 

급수탑은 가장 인상적인 근대산업시설물로서 철도사는 물론 근대개발사와 관련하여 중요한 근대 건축물이다.

 

 

 

 

It was built to supply water onto the steam locomotive bound to Honam area

 

on December, 30th 1911 and it was used for about 60 years until 1970's.

 

The water tower is 16.2metres in height, and it has 16.6 squares metres' floor area

 

and capacity of 30 tons.   The pond to located by the tower initially built to supply

 

water to tower.  The pond is 2.8 metres in width and 6 metres depth.

 

 

 

 

증기기관차, 1899년 미국에서 도입된 모걸형 탱크기관차, 1945년 2000HP의 증기기관차(해방1호) 제작

객차 20량으로 100km/h 운행 가능.  1948년도 총 631량의 증기기관차를 보유, 1967년 8월 31일 운행종료됨.  철도박물관 소장품.

 

 

 

 

During the Japanese colonical rule of Korea, the Japan constructed a railroad network

 

that connected throughout Korea.   They  built water supply facility at every major railroad supply.

 

Among them in the Chungnam area, there had been water towers Seodaejeon

 

and GangGyeong stations, but they were demolished about 30 years ago,

 

living only one at YeonSan Stations.

The Water tower at YeonSan Station is made of granite stone,

 

 which gives unique sense ofbeauty to the tower.  

 

The water tower is on of the most impressive modern industrial

 

facility, and it is deemed valuable in the study of history of railroad networks

 

 and industrial  development.
